HEALTH STATISTICS (REPORTS IN ENGLISH)

Welcome to the Health Statistics Portal of Institute of Hygiene, which provides information on health statistics in Lithuania. The portal is aimed to monitor and analyse trends of morbidity (prevalence or number of ill persons), causes of deaths, selected surgical procedures.
Prevalence - the number of persons having at least one registered particular diagnosis per year in health care institutions (hospitals, emergency departments, primary health care) and on death certificates. Data source: Compulsory Health Insurance Fund Information System (CHIF IS). CHIF IS covers all health care institutions having contracts with CHIF. CHIF IS coverage is: primary health care visits - 100%, hospital and emergency inpatients and outpatients episodes - 99%, outpatient visits in hospitals and specialised outpatient health care institutions - 90%, dentist visits - 40-50%.
Since June 1, 2011 comorbidities and complications are registered in hospitals. Since 1 July, 2013 all diagnosis are registered for outpatients in emergency departments of hospitals. Since 2014 data on prevalence is the most complete.
Cause of deaths: Data source is Register of Causes of Death.
Diagnosis are coded using The International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, Tenth Revision, Australian Modification (ICD-10-AM).
Selected surgical procedures: Data source is Compulsory Health Insurance Fund Information System. Procedures are coded using Australian Classification of Health Interventions (ACHI). European shortlist of surgical procedures is used.
